An avatar is simply a photo or image used to visually associate content with a particular user. It creates a level of personalization within the community.

The ability for a user to either have an avatar or change their avatar is controlled by the community administrator. The community administrator enables the properties that allow you to use a personal avatar, as well as select an avatar from a list of approved avatars or download an avatar from a remote site. If you are permitted to change your avatar, you can change your avatar from your profile page.

Changing your avatar from your Profile Options page

To change your avatar from your Profile Options page:

  1. Click your user icon in the navigation bar.

    The Profile page appears.

  2. Click Edit Profile. The profile editing page appears, displaying your avatar and a link to change it.

  3. Click Change avatar.

In the Change Avatar dialog box, select either the Upload an avatar or Select an avatar tab. (Note: If your site has Enable remote avatars selected in the System Administration > Membership Administration > Configuration > Account Settings > Avatar Settings tab, the Link to an avatar option will also be included.)

  4. If you chose to upload an avatar, browse to the desired image. Click Upload and use image.

  5. If you chose to select an avatar image provided by your community administrator, select the image and click Use selected image.

Remove your avatar

If you have altered your avatar from the default avatar image, you have the option to remove the chosen image.

  1. Change your profile.
  2. In the Change Avatar dialog box, click Remove Avatar.
